'Two and a Half Men' moving to Thursday nights this Fall

Two and a Half Men is set to Thursday nights for the 2012/13 season, CBS announced today. Unveiling their fall schedule at their upfront presentation in New York, CBS revealed their plan to move the long-running show to the Thursday 8:30/7:30c slot, immediately following The Big Bang Theory.

In its nine-year history, Two and a Half Men has never moved to a different day, having started and remained on Monday nights. Two and a Half Men aired at 9:30/8:30c for its first two years, following the popular CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. From the 2005/06 season, Two and a Half Men has aired at 9/8c and became the crown jewel in CBS's Monday night line-up.

The Big Bang Theory, which will now lead in to Two and a Half Men, was co-created by Chuck Lorre, co-creator of Two and a Half Men. The Big Bang Theory was originally a Monday-night sitcom airing in a number of different slots on the night between 2007 and 2010. The Big Bang Theory moved to Thursday nights for the 2010/11 season and has now become one of the highest-rated sitcoms on TV. CBS has so far struggled to find a suitable partner for the Big Bang in the one-hour Thursday-night comedy block. Three different shows filled the 8:30 slot this season: How to be a Gentleman, canceled after three weeks; Rules of Engagement, a moderate performer but often used as mid-season filler by CBS; and Rob, also now cancelled.

Two and a Half Men's replacement in the Monday 9/8c slot will be 2 Broke Girls, which just completed its first season. How I Met Your Mother is to stay at 8/7c, while new sitcom Partners airs at 8:30. Chuck Lorre's Mike & Molly will also remain in its 9:30 slot and Hawaii Five-0 stays put at 10/9c.

Last night's ninth season finale of Two and a Half Men finished first in the key demos and a strong second overall in yesterday's ratings.

"Oh Look! Al-Qaeda!" was watched by 11.55 million people, up slightly from 11.43m last week, and scored a 6.9/10 rating in households. The show finished second in total viewers and households, ranking behind ABC's Dancing with the Stars. In the key adults 18-49 demographic, Two and a Half Men finished first with a 3.8/10 rating, unchanged from last week.

Two and a Half Men was recently renewed for a tenth season. Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones all reached new deals to remain with the show for another year.

Two and a Half Men renewed for tenth season

Two and a Half Men has been renewed for a tenth season, CBS announced earlier this weekend. The long-running sitcom was CBS's 19th show to be picked up for next season.

The renewal comes after new contracts were signed by cast members Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones and the show's producers Warner Bros. Television. After co-creator Lee Aronsohn stepped down from his role as executive producer, the executive producers for Season 10 are Chuck Lorre, Jim Patterson, Don Reo and Eddie Gorodetsky.

This season, which saw Kutcher replace former-lead star Charlie Sheen, the show has posted significant year-on-year ratings growh. The season's ratings were up 13% in total viewers, averaging 15.00 million, and up a whopping 27% in the key adults 18-49 demographic, averaging a 5.2/13 rating.

Last night's episode of Two and a Half Men, the show's 200th episode, finished first in the ratings for its time slot.

"The Straw In My Donut Hole", featuring guest star Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), was watched by 11.43 million people, up by around 110,000 viewers on last week. Two and a Half Men ranked second in total viewers and households, finishing behind ABC's Dancing with the Stars. In the important adults 18-49 demographic, Two and a Half Men scored a 3.8/10 rating, virtually unchanged from last week's 3.8/9. Two and a Half Men tied NBC's The Voice for first place in the demo.

Showrunner Lee Aronsohn steps down

Two and a Half Men stars Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones may be ready to stick around for another season of the show, but long-time showrunner Lee Aronsohn apparently is not. Aronsohn, also the show's co-creator with Chuck Lorre, has stepped down as showrunner and is negotiating to return as an executive consultant.

As showrunner, Aronsohn has managed the day-to-day runnings of the show for nine years. No reason was given for his decision to give up the top job. Writer-producers Don Reo, who joined the show in 2010, and Jim Patterson, who was worked on the show since 2006, will join Chuck Lorre as showrunners.

Two and a Half Men has not yet been officially renewed by CBS, but the show is widely expected to be renewed. With the key cast members now signed up for another season, CBS is apparently close to striking a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Television, who produce the show. Although its ratings have fallen during the course of the season, Two and a Half Men remains one of the most popular sitcoms on TV and is a big cash cow for CBS and WBTV.

Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones close to new deal

Two and a Half Men stars Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones are reportedly close to signing a new one-year deal to return for a tenth season of Two and a Half Men.

Deadline.com reports that the three stars, whose contracts all expired this season, have negotiated contracts which will keep their current salaries along with a signing bonus. The site claims that Kutcher is to receive almost $700,000 per episode, Jon Cryer a bit less and Angus T. Jones to receive $300,000 per episode.

With the main stars' contracts under negotitation, Two and a Half Men has not yet been formally renewed for a tenth season. Should the stars sign these new deals, Warner Bros' attention will turn to a new licensing agreement with CBS, which is expected to be in place by CBS's upfront on May 16.

The tenth season, which would mark Kutcher's second season on the show, could well be the final season for the show. Co-reator and executive producer Chuck Lorre has previously mentioned his desire to see the show finish with its tenth season, though no final decision has been made.

Last night's episode of Two and a Half Men, with special guest star Kathy Bates (Harry's Law) as the ghost of Charlie, finished first in the key adults 18-49 demo and a solid second overall in last night's ratings. CBS achieved its first Monday night win since NBC's The Voice premiered in January.

"Why We Gave Up Women" was watched by 11.32 million people, adding 100,000 viewers from the last original episode. The show finished second in total viewers and households, ranking behind ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

In the important adults 18-49 demographic, Two and a Half Men finished first with a 3.7/9 rating, up slightly from 3.6/9 on April 16. Two and a Half Men was the night's highest-rated program among adults 18-49.

CBS has announced the ninth season finale of Two and a Half Men, which will air Monday, May 14. Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens) reprises his role as Billy, Walden's ex-business partner.

Two and a Half Men has not yet been renewed for a tenth season, but negotiations are reportedly ongoing and the show is widely expected to return. CBS may wait until the Upfronts in mid-May to announce their decision for Two and a Half Men, especially if contract negotiations drag on. The Upfronts are when networks gather advertisers and the press together to reveal their new programs and announce their fall schedules. CBS's Upfront is set for Wednesday, May 16.

Last night's episode of Two and a Half Men rose slightly in the ratings from last week to finish second in the ratings.

"Mr. Hose Says 'Yes'" was watched by 11.03 million people, up by around 600,000 viewers from last week. In the key adults 18-49 demographic, the show scored a 3.7/9 rating, up slightly from last week's 3.6/9 rating. Two and a Half Men finished second in the ratings by all key metrics. and ranked above NBC's The Voice for the first time in that show's run.

CBS has announced the May 7 episode of Two and a Half Men, the show's 200th episode and the penultimate episode of the current season. Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) guest stars as Alan's cardiologist, Dr. Goodman, in the episode. Marin Hinkle, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Sophie Winkleman and Graham Patrick Martin all reprise their roles as Judith, Lyndsey, Zoey and Eldridge, respectively.

With the current season drawing to close, attention turns to whether the show will be coming back next season. Although CBS has not yet formally renewed Two and a Half Men, it is widely expected the show will be returning with Ashton Kutcher for a tenth season. Contract negotiations are reportedly ongoing right now to get Kutcher, who was only contracted for one year, and Jon Cryer, whose contract expired this season, to sign a new deal. The stars have both commented about their willingness to return to the show for another season, though Warner Bros. is reportedly looking to sign two-year contracts with the stars to extend Two and a Half Men through to an eleventh season in 2013/14.

"Grandma's Pie" was watched by 10.39 million people, down by 1.06m from the show's last original episode. In the important adults 18-49 demo, Two and a Half Men fell to a series low rating of 3.5/9 last night, down from 3.8/9 on March 19. Two and a Half Men finished second in the key 18-49 demo and third place in households and total viewers.
